I
suggested to former President Rodrigo Carazo that we should launch a
model 'Costa Rica, an island of sanity, peace and well preserved Earth
in the world'. The elements to begin with would be:
1. The demilitarization of the country. 2. Thirty percent of all nature of the country is protected. 3. The creation of the post of High Commissioner for Human Rights at the United Nations. 4. The first cease-fires adopted by the United Nations. 5. The creation of the United Nations University for Peace. 6. The creation of the Earth Council. 7. The creation of the International Radio for Peace. 8. The efforts of President Arias to obtain that more countries should demilitarize themselves. Panama and Haiti did. Yes, Costa Rica could really serve as a model to be imitated by many other countries. Volume II - The Art of Personal Happy Living Chapter 10 - Of Dreams, Visions and Ideals The trouble of our time is that limited economics has become the principal motor of human life. It is the total evolution of the Earth and of humanity which must become the engine of human consideration, efforts, life and progress.
