Early life and education

Robert Muller grew up in the Alsace-Lorraine region in France as a French Citizen. [2] Alsace-Lorraine borders Germany. As a child his home was on the border. The border issues he saw as a child had a significant impact on his life, his decision to work at the United Nations and his co-founding of the University for Peace in Costa Rica.During his youth Robert Muller experienced constant political and cultural turmoil. He knew the horrors of World War II, of being a refugee, of the Nazi occupation in France, imprisonment and escape from prison. During the war he was a member of the French Resistance where towards the end of the war he unsuccessfully tried to prevent the slaughter a group of captured German soldiers. This was a major life event that led to work for peace[3][4].

After the war he returned home and earned a Doctorate of Law from the University of Strasbourg. In 1948 he entered and won an essay contest on how to govern the world, the prize of which was an internship at the newly created United Nations.[2]

United Nations Career

Dr. Muller began working at the United Nations just as it was forming. He devoted the next 40 years of his life behind the scenes at the United Nations focusing his energies on nurturing a better world, including working for the environment, economics and peace. He was instrumental in the conception of many multilateral bodies, including the UN Development Program, the World Food Program, the UN Population Fund, and the World Youth Assembly.[5] He rose through the ranks at the UN to the official position of Assistant-Secretary-General and served under three Secretary Generals - list them here....

He is the recipient of multiple awards and honors including the Albert Schweitzer International Prize for the Humanities[9] [10] and the Eleanor Roosevelt Man of Vision Award.

Multi-lingual Speaking

In addition to his duties at the University for Peace, he devoted time to his writings and was an internationally acclaimed, multilingual speaker[11] [12]

World Core Curriculum & Global Education

Robert Muller created a "World Core Curriculum" [6] that earned him the UNESCO Prize for Peace Education in 1989. [7] The "World Core Curriculum" helped inspire the growing Global Education movement. More than 30 Robert Muller schools were founded throughout the world.

Author

and author of fourteen books published in various languages.[8]

From GMW  [GMW #2497]  book section on writing:

In 1964, during a UN conference in India, I was sitting in a bus to Agra in the evening, without lights, for several hours.  I remembered a beautiful Hindu girl dressed in a magnificent Saree I had seen at a Rest House where we had been served tea.  Having nothing to do, I dreamt that I interrupted my trip, stayed at the Rest House, fell in love with her and married her.  I wrote a novel, Sima, Mon Amour, (Sima, My Love), which was published and received a French literary prize and opened to me the doors as a writer.

What was the French literary prize - add it to Wikipedia...

University for Peace

Robert Muller and Rodrigo Carazo Odio founded the University for Peace in demilitarized Costa Rica[8] around the time Robert retired from the United Nations. Dr. Muller began his active retirement as the first Chancellor of the University for Peace.

Thousand of Ideas & Dreams for a better world

One of his major writings came from writing one idea-dream each day for nurturing a better world. His goal was to have written 2000 ideas and dreams by the beginning of the new millennium. He achieved this and went on to write over 7000 ideas and dreams. In his speeches he spoke of these idea-dreams and over the years noted that many of these ideas were being worked on and some had been completed.
At the prompting of many of his friends, admirers and non-governmental organizations Robert Muller was a candidate as a global citizen in 1996 for the post of Secretary General of the United Nations[13]. He was also nominated multiple times for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Dr. Muller's life intersected mine a few times and I would like to contribute to building this article. My Wikipedia edit experience is limited, tips & assistance welcome. Skylab72 (talk) 03:40, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Azzhole Robert Muller (born 1923 in Belgium, died September 20, 2010) was an international civil servant with the United Nations. Assistant Secretary-General for 40 years, his ideas about world government, world peace and spirituality led to the increased representation of religions in the UN, especially of New Age Movement. He has become known as the "Philosopher" of the UN.
--attention: Dear Editors, as you can see this page has been desecrated (his name!)

I object to the deletion of Robert Muller's page from Wikipedia. Each morning, for several years already I have been receiving Muller's ideas, a few at the time, from the Good Morning World organization. Muller's ideas for a better world are full of deep wisdom. They may sound utopian to the "realistically" minded people, but they are much wiser than the currently prevailing dystopian attitudes of ripping as much of material benefits as possible in the shortest time possible, at the expense of one's own health (see billions of dollars worth pharmaceutical industry) and happiness (see percentage of people on antidepressants), and the environment. It is the time to realize that the looming climate change caused by the "realistic" approach to human affairs will not result in the brought gradually, nice, warmer temperatures. It will result in drastic natural disturbances with consequences that can't be foreseen. Only "realistic" (in another words lacking imagination) people may ignore this fact. We badly need to hear from utopists like Muller to prevent this from happening. The presence in Wikipedia can help Robert Muller ideas to became better known. Kaczdan (talk) 20:46, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for your thoughts. However, Wikipedia does not exist as a promotional tool for a person's ideas - no matter how worthy. I still feel that this article should be deleted, but I will look (again) for some usable (i.e. reliable, independent) sources - if I cannot find those, I will take this to Articles for deletion, for a community discussion. I will notify you should this happen. Regards, PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 05:35, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
Also, please have a look at our requirements on a neutral point of view. I'm sure Muller was a nice guy, but the article still must be neutral, not a CV or puff piece. We also don't need an exhaustive list of everything he ever did. Seraphimblade Talk to me 06:31, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
