Idea Dream - Robert Muller's Ideas 1001 to 1500
~ Idea 1415 ~    26 May 1998

Noting during my trip to Europe how unhappy many people were, the thought occurred to me again that each government should create a Ministry of Happiness.

The US should be the first to create one since "the pursuit of happiness: is specifically mentioned in its Constitution as a principal aim of government.

Such Ministries could hold public opinion polls or surveys to find out why people feel unhappy.  It would yield fascinating results.

Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living,
Volume II Chapter 4 - Of Positive Living
We should see what is good in others, not what is bad.

We should help them develop what is good, and the bad will wither away.  To insist on the bad gives reality to the bad.

To insist on the good gives reality to the good.

Dear Barbara,

Thank you so much for your invitation, which I received from Mary Newswanger in Monteverde; and also from Yamile Salas at the University for Peace, where I am now working as Career Officer (after volunteering and consulting for several years).  I look forward to meeting you at the ceremony on Friday, which I will be attending, accompanied by my son, Daniel.

It was because of the inspiration of Robert and his life, that my husband and I have been dedicating our lives to working at the University for Peace.  Robert was so gracious and welcoming to us when we first came to visit the University for Peace about 14 years ago.  He shared with us his writings and brought us to his farm to sit on the "bench of dreams" and throw our stone with our dream into the field, while keeping another stone in our pocket as a reminder of our dream.  I have since shared about the "bench of dreams" with students at the University for Peace during several of my seminars.

Thank you so much for honoring Robert and his life in this manner.  I especially like the brief biography, since I often help UPEACE students with internships as a next step along their career path; and Robert's career is a wonderful example, which I will use in the future.  We also held a moving memorial to Robert on campus last year, and many people spoke of the inspiration Robert was to them.

Best wishes to you,

Christine

Here is a special RSVP below from one of Robert's first Peace Museum planners, Sandy Hinden.

He will join us at Robert's celebration of his life.
WE are working on the live broadcast and I will keep you posted on that development also.

At 1:25pm NY time we invite all GMW readers to join us in singing these words...love and appreciation for you, Barbara Muller

LET THERE BE PEACE ON EARTH

(Jill Jackson / Sy Miller) - circa 1955
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on earth
The peace that was meant to be.
With God as our father
Brothers all are we.
Let me walk with my brother
In perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me
Let this be the moment now.
With every step I take
Let this be my solemn vow.
To take each moment
And live each moment
With peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth,
And let it begin with me.

I said this at the United Nations in 2005 at an Interfaith Conference for Peace - it is coming true throughout Africa and the Mideast.

The world will never be at peace unless we create sustainable communities. There are hundreds of millions of men moving around the planet looking for work. When men don't have work, they get into trouble selling drugs, guns, and weapons of all kinds.

We need a World Works Program to help men find a job or they will be drawn into gangs, organized crime, and now terrorism.  Men need help, guidance, counseling and work to be able to have a decent home and family. We will go from 6.5 billion people on Earth today, to somewhere between 9 to 12 billion people on the planet by 2050. If we don't help men, they will create more violence, war and terrorism.

Peace & Love,
Sandy
