Idea Dream - Robert Muller's Ideas 1501 to 2000
~ Idea 1577 ~ 4 November 1998

We have accepted the concept of sustainable development. We must now also adopt the concept of sustainable consumption. This is very urgent.

Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living,
Volume II  Chapter 2  Of Happiness
In the 1970s I suggested to the Gallup organization to conduct a world public opinion survey on happiness.  They retained instead the concept of "Quality of life."  The results were that below a certain standard of life and when there are serious sicknesses in a family, there is no happiness.

Above a certain standard of life, people are on the whole satisfied with their quality of life.

Beyond a high standard, unhappiness reappears:  in the richest countries, the suicide rate increases, drug addiction and alcoholism proliferate, an increasing percentage of people do not find any meaning in life.

This is when the hour of spirituality, philanthropy and service to a better world strikes.
