They thought that I should compete for it. I told them that it was they themselves, the young, who should do that and not their 77 years old grandfather. I congratulate you for launching that essay and wish that you will send me a copy of the winning contest. But I thought that I should perhaps also send you my conclusions, proposals and forecasts after a life of fifty years of service with the United Nations and with the UN University for Peace in Costa Rica. I thought that such a paper might be of interest to you. I will publish it as an update to My Testament to the UN  of 1992, a contribution to the year 2000 and the third millennium. I will also address it with a personal letter to each head of state before their meeting during the General Assembly of the UN this fall which is to "focus on means to solve our primary global problems and to reform the means of global governance in order to meet the challenges of the 21st century." I hope The Economist will submit its views and ideas in response to the competition. Personally I will soon come out with more volumes of ideas and dreams for a better world, bringing the total to 4000.
