There are
already
several
countries,
especially
Nordic
countries
which offer
premiums to
owners of land
in the poor
countries who
accept to
reforest their
lands. Rich
countries
could also
provide
funding to
small
countries
which would
decide to
abolish the
military and
devote the
funds to
environmental
causes.
Military
service would
be replaced by
environmental
service.
As noted in Idea 20 of Volume I there are already 26 demilitarized countries in the world. In Central America demilitarized Costa Rica is much more peaceful and prosperous than the other Central American republics.
