Idea Dream - Robert Muller's Ideas 1 to 500
~ Idea 380 ~    25 July 1995

In ancient Greece, all wars were stopped to allow the people to attend the Olympic Peace Games.

The UN General Assembly remembered it and decided in 1994 that the 17 days of the commemoration of the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 should be celebrated with a world cease-fire.

The General Assembly also adopted the Costa Rican proposal that the week of 24 October 1995, 50th anniversary of the United Nations, should be a world week of peace.

I would recommend the further decision that the year 2000 be declared a world year of cease fire and peace.

Instead of just scoffing at this heresy that a kid wanted to get published, or saying 'wait until you're older,' my parents were really supportive." Since publishing her first book at the age of 7, Adora Svitak, now 12, has spoken for hundreds of schools and educators. She calls for "childish" thinking to embrace bright and creative ideas that would otherwise be considered impractical by most adults. [ more ]
