I have been unbelievably happy in my life. But it did not come all by itself. I had to work and look out constantly for it. I had to make it my ideal and highest purpose, during my entire life and beyond.
In 1997 I had the good fortune to meet you while I was staying in a cabin on the UN Peace University's campus. You gave me a tour of the rain forest and regaled me with stories of your years at the UN. I also have on my bookshelf an autographed copy of your book First Lady of the World. I have thought of you and your work many times. Today while I was going through files in my office, I found some of the materials you gave me nearly 13 years ago. I went to your Website and enjoyed reading about your work.
Since I saw you in 1997 I have had many opportunities to work internationally. As a result of my trip to San Jose and a meeting with the election commission and several others, I was invited to Bogota to speak with South American election officials. I've done work with IFES, the U.S. Department of State, and the National Democratic Institute on election and voter education projects. For seven years I was the international dean at my university.
You have no idea how much you influenced me and how much healing I experienced while spending time in my cabin or walking through the grounds. I was at a point in my life where there was much personal pain. Your concepts of forgiveness helped me to see that I needed to move on and I have.
Keep up the good work you are doing. You are an inspiration.
