Idea Dream - Robert Muller's Ideas 1001 to 1500
~ Idea 1432 ~    12 June 1998

When future generations and historians will look back at our century, they will be appalled by the minimal resources allotted to world organizations to cope with colossal, unprecedented problems affecting our Earth and humanity, while astronomic sums were spent on national prestige and power programs and Earth destroying business.

When national leaders and chief executive officers of businesses will appear before God's tribunal, they will be condemned not for classical sins but for new global sins against nature and God's Creation.

Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living,
Volume II Chapter 4 - Of Positive Living
We must look beyond what we see, what we read and what we hear.  We must look beyond what we know and what we are.

Our entire life must be one long positive beyonding of ourself.  There should be a science of individual futurology, growth and beyonding

Idea Dream - Robert Muller's Ideas 1001 to 1500
~ Idea 1429 ~    9 June 1998

I cannot repeat often enough that common world projects should be planned and undertaken to increase the efficiency of the world ecology, economy and management and put an end or at least reduce the colossal duplications between 185 nation states.  I hope that the European Union will become a second leading model for the world, after the United States, and that many more regional communities will be created, leading at long last to a true world community, a United States of the World or a World Union.

The UN should create an office of collecting and proposing many common world projects.

Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living,
Volume II Chapter 4 - Of Positive Living
You have no idea how people can be disinterested in your negativism.  But to be polite, they say nothing or nod politely and go.

You will never imagine how many people will keep away from you because you are negative.  You will never imagine how people will be friends with you and will help you if you are positive.

Pessimists, cynics and negative people think that they are smart.  On the contrary, they are very stupid, self-destructive.

A tribute at the Memorial Service 27 September 2010
for the
World Leader for Peace, Robert Mulle
r

By
Ambassador Anwarul K. Chowdhury,
Under-Secretary-General and
High Representative of the United Nations (2002-2007) and
Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN (1996-2001)
*****

The international community is deeply indebted to Robert Muller for his life-long contribution to humankind's quest for peace and happiness. A man of peace, a true global citizen and a real believer in harmony and understanding among all peoples, he lived an extraordinary, exemplary life that motivates all of us to carry forward his mission for world peace and global cooperation.

I am one of them being charmed by this renaissance man of ideas from our first meeting at the UN when I reached there in 1972 with the application for the membership of my new-born country Bangladesh. Our interactions since then - in particular for the University of Peace and for the World Center of Thanksgiving - had always been spirit-uplifting. His words, writings and books have been a constant source of inspiration for me.

Robert has been one of our greatest and most committed voices for peace. He dedicated his life to global unity and the spiritual well-being of humanity. It fills us with energy when he and his life-partner Barbara wrote in 2001, "Let us make this third millennium a Jubillennium filled with overflowing peace, tremendous love, happiness and thanksgiving." Rising, within a span of 40 years, from a UN Intern to Assistant Secretary General's position, Robert's courageous story is an inspiration to all of us to continue working relentlessly for the mission of the United Nations.

Introducing an excellent hands-on approach to learning in a global perspective, Robert created a "World Core Curriculum" that earned him the UNESCO Peace Education Prize in 1989. He has been popularly known throughout the world as the "father of global education."

In his acceptance speech for the UNESCO prize, he said, "I hope [there will be] a global peace strategy which would reach from outer-space to the atom, encompassing all aspects of our planetary home." I believe with its Programme of Action on Culture of Peace, the United Nations has given the world such a strategy and today, in honor of Robert's memory, we need to re-dedicate ourselves to the Programme's realization into a meaningful reality.

In his poem Decide to be Peaceful, Robert exhorted us so eloquently:  "Render others peaceful; Be a model of peace; Irradiate your peace; Love passionately the peace."

In conclusion, I echo you my dear friend as I say, "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me."

[GMW #2174] Common Ownership Registry - Art, Nature, Oceans, - Owned by Local, State, National, Continental And World

Idea Dream - Robert Muller's Ideas 1001 to 1500
~ Idea 1426 ~    6 June 1998

One could make a serious plea for local, state, national, continental and world common ownership.  For example:

- the archives and archives building of my hometown in Alsace-Lorraine belong to the city, and rightly so;

- many art treasures belong to local, state and national museums.  The UN and its agencies are also conservation places of art treasures;

- there are many municipal, state and national parks in the world and the beginning of world parks with the wonderful preserved lands of the University for Peace;

- the high seas and oceans are a commons of humanity and are to be administered by a United Nation High Authority;

I would like to see more of all this, in order to stop the destruction of the planet by sole national sovereignty and private business motives.

It is a major question worth looking into on a world-wide basis.  This is why I have recommended the creation of a world land ownership register or cadastre.  It would yield the most interesting results.  The publicly owned roads, highways, bridges and airports of this planet would alone yield an impressive figure.  I highly recommend that WIPO, the UN's World Intellectual Property Organization be entrusted with the holding of a World real estate register or cadastre.

In a true democracy, people are entitled to know to whom this Earth belongs.  It will be a good subject for the Panel of personalities under former Secretary General Boutros Ghali appointed by UNESCO to look into the subject of democracy.  I will send them my ideas on the subject.

Daily Good
We always talk about working together... perhaps crisis can give birth to new evolution. --Yuka Saionji

Inspiration of the Day:
Snapshots from Japan: A woman opens up her home and bathrooms to weary travelers walking hours home. A baker gives out free bread. Customers at the supermarket pick up fallen items and quietly stand in line to buy food. An old man at the evacuation shelter asks, "What's going to happen now?" And a young high school boy nearby responds, "Don't worry! When we grow up, we will promise to fix it back!" Among the tremendous ripples of Japan's tsunami are some of the most strikingly powerful yet simple moments of human grace. [ more ]

Idea Dream - Robert Muller's Ideas 1001 to 1500
    ~ Idea 1424 ~    4 June 1998

I am so happy that three former Heads of State, all women, as a result of the campaign I started with my novel First Lady of the World, have recently been appointed to very high positions in the UN System:
  • Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland now UN High Commissioner for Human Rights;
  • Gro Harlan Brundtland, former Prime Minister of Norway now Director General of the World Health Organization;
  • and Louise Frechette, former Deputy Secretary of Defense of Canada now Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations.
They will be astonished by the ridiculous small sums put at their disposal to run their world-wide functions, compared with what they had when they were in national service.

I wish that an outgoing President of the United States were appointed Secretary General of the UN.  I would like to see their face when they sees their budget!

Idea Dream - Robert Muller's Ideas 1001 to 1500
~ Idea 1423 ~    3 June 1998

After 50 years of keen observation and warmest cooperation, I must honestly confess that the nation-state system must either obey its own rules laid down in the UN Charter or it will perish.

Do Heads of State know their solemn obligation under the UN Charter?

I suggest that before assuming office they read that Charter and on the day of their inauguration read out its Preamble to their people.  They could swear on the UN Charter as some do on the Bible.

There is urgent need for a world school for heads of State in which they would learn about global affairs and be taught to co-administer the planet properly.  There is not a single University on Earth that provides such training.  The only substitute is service with the United Nations.  Please let us create a UN World School for heads of states.

Idea Dream - Robert Muller's Ideas 1001 to 1500
~ Idea 1422 ~    2 June 1998

One wonders if economics has remained faithful to its meaning?  Does it really lead to economies?  Has it not become the most mind-boggling waste production on this planet?

Should it not be rethought, re-evaluated from scratch on the eve of a new century and millennium?

I challenge economists to do it seriously and honestly for the good of the people, of nature and of the future of the Earth.

Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living,
Volume II Chapter 4 - Of Positive Living
We must hold our thoughts together the same way as we hold our body together.

Life is an affirmative structure.

This is true also of the world society:  we must hold it together, build up its structure.

We should create a new science: a science of positive affirmations, an affirmology.

Idea Dream - Robert Muller's Ideas 1001 to 1500
~ Idea 1421 ~    1 June 1998

Perhaps a state enterprises stock market, even a world enterprises stock market should be created, so that people could invest their savings in public common service enterprises if they prefer them to private enterprise, the latter being subject to speculations, risks and staggering waste caused by excessive competition.

Darwinism, which is being challenged for evolution should also be challenged with regard to business and economics.

Yes, he was there with all of us in love and gratitude for you
and the 160 who took time to say thank you!

Love and thank you for your kind comments in your e-mail and for being you!
Dear Barbara,
What a beautiful day!   What a beautiful celebration of
Robert Muller's life!   His love radiated out to all who were
there.   What fantastic wisdom he shared.  People will
be asking him questions long into the century and they
will be pleased to receive the answers in his many books
and writings.  Maybe the world will catch up to him some day.

I am so pleased that Good Morning World is continuing.
I have just subscribed.

Ode To Joy will even be more special to me now
that I know it was his favorite.

With warmest greetings,
Margaret

Remarks at
Memorial Service for Robert Muller
[delivered by Mr. Kiyo
Akasaka, USG for Communications and Public Information]

I offer sincere condolences to all the family members, friends, former
colleagues and others who have gathered to mourn the loss and
commemorate the life of Dr. Robert Muller. I thank the Global Security
Institute for hosting this service.

I did not know Dr. Muller personally, but I am well aware of the very
high regard in which he is held throughout the United Nations
community. And I do know this: when death claims a staff member who
brought such tremendous passion and commitment to our work, and who
devoted so many decades to this Organization, it is a loss for the
living United Nations family as a whole.

Robert Muller was a justifiably renowned figure. His creativity and
influence were instrumental in the conception of scores of
multilateral bodies, including the UN Development Programme, the World
Food Programme, the UN Population Fund, and the World Youth Assembly
-- some of the key endeavours that define the United Nations and our
global work. He knew that these could not be impersonal institutional
structures but, rather, had to be alive with vision, compassion and a
powerful sense of human unity.

Dr. Muller brought precisely that spirit to whatever task he
undertook. For him, the entire human family was his family. He also
helped orchestrate the first-ever UN Conference on the Human
Environment in Stockholm in 1972, and was deeply involved in many
other global gatherings. His career spanned the decades, the issues,
and even almost all the professional ranks of the Secretariat –
starting from the P1 level and rising steadily to
Assistant-Secretary-General, directly serving three of my
predecessors. He also had a tremendous imprint on global education,
including through the University of Peace, and richly earned the
UNESCO Prize for Peace Education in 1989.

We will miss our optimist-in-residence, as some called him. But he
remains a source of inspiration, and his example and his teachings
will continue to guide us in our global mission of peace, development
and human rights. On this day that would have been his 88th birthday,
let us celebrate just the same - the life of a remarkable man who
brought hope and good works to the world.

Idea Dream - Robert Muller's Ideas 1001 to 1500
~ Idea 1420 ~    31 May 1998

The incredible efficiency of the French national railroads and the excellent United States Postal Service lead me to recommend that the world should not believe blindly in the fundamentalist, almost fanatic claim of superiority of privatization, and consider more, not less, state enterprises.  It will lead to inefficiency, business will claim.

Well, how come that the French national railroad networks are faster and more convenient to all people of France while the number of their employees and workers has been reduced from 475,000 thirty years ago to 175,000 today?  And they have all a stable, secure employment and revenue.

Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living,
Volume II Chapter 4 - Of Positive Living
Develop the art of positive living down to the last detail.  Close yourself totally to any negative thoughts and influences.

Be positive at every moment of your life until negativism keeps away from you as from a poison.  It can be done.

Try it and practice it.  The results are astonishing.
