A city like Santa Barbara
could be a model for the world as it is already for many people in the
US: exemplary are its decision not to overgrow, to have trees and
flowers all along the roads of the city, to prohibit advertisement
beyond a certain dimension, to have beautiful, clean, non-polluted
beaches, to be a high point of the arts and culture, etc.
The trouble is that such a city then attracts many rich people who want to live in it and as a result the prices of land and housings increase a lot. That is not democratic and good either.
