[GMW #2817] Beautiful Islands Without Skyscrapers - With Gratitude & Counted Blessings Encourage God To Help

[GMW #2817] Beautiful Islands Without Skyscrapers - With Gratitude & Counted Blessings Encourage God To Help Idea Dream -Robert Muller's Ideas 3001 to 3500
~ Idea 3212 ~    Honolulu, Hawaii

Why are there skyscrapers in Honolulu, one of the most beautiful islands in the world, a true jewel of nature in the middle of the Pacific Ocean?  It doesn't make sense.  But it makes sense to big businesses which all want to have their own skyscraper in every major city of the world, because it increases their capital, visibility and power.

Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living,
Volume II Chapter 11 Of Gratitude
As I was washing the windows of our little farmhouse, I was thinking:
"What would a Roman Emperor say if he saw those beautiful, flat, perfectly transparent window-panes, which are so common and cheap today, which the poorest people can afford?  He would not understand how such wonders can be made."  We of course take them for granted and seldom look at them with love and gratitude for letting light come into our homes.  For thousands of years scores of humans lived without them.  He would express the same astonishment at electricity, cooking stoves, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, television and radio.  He would not believe his eyes, and would exclaim: "You must be the happiest people who ever lived."

Alas, too many people would look at him, disgruntled, taking all these blessings for granted, and would come up with a long list of complaints.  He would not understand it.  I believe God does not understand it either.  This is why our troubles on Earth continue: since we do not have the gratitude to count our blessings, God is not encouraged to help us solve the new problems before us.

Dear reader, look for a few moments at the marvel of a windowpane, smile to it, give thanks for it and give it a little kiss.

7 Billion Others
We share this planet with seven billion others. What is our relationship with them? Are we a single unity? Do we belong to one of many tribal divisions? Are we individuals in a planet full of individuality?

There is, of course, no single answer to these fundamental questions. Our sense of identity and diversity depends on context. But the way we conceive of our place among the people of the world has profound social, environmental, political, and ethical implications.

The GoodPlanet Foundation asked people from all over the world a series of standard questions about the things they value. The survey examines their hopes, dreams, fears, and grounding principles.

In bearing witness to the answers, the project allows us to explore the depth of our human commonality against the superficial visual and linguistic signs of difference.

These sound-bites provide points of connection between ourselves and others. { read more }
