Idea Dream - Robert Muller's Ideas 1 to 500

~ Idea 128 ~ 15 November 1994

The time has come when the effectiveness of international agreements and treaties as a means of world administration and legal order must be reviewed from scratch.

I recommend that the UN prepare a simple, comprehensive survey of the ratification, entry into force and implementation of all existing international agreements and treaties.

It would show for example that of the 117 international labor agreements worked out in the International Labor Organization, the US has ratified only 7 and that the agreement reached in the UN General Assembly to create in demilitarized Costa Rica the first University for Peace on this planet, has been ratified after 14 years by only 32 governments out of 185.

I suggest that a World Commission of Eminent Persons be established on the implementation of international agreements.

Chapter 4 The Highpoint of Human Life, Youth

Every young person on Earth should join a youth organization, local or international.

Consult the World Encyclopedia of Youth Movements published by the United Nations. Join a United Nations Association. Organize Model UN's. Support the UN, its specialized agencies. Organize parallel youth conferences to each UN world conference.

Celebrate the world days proclaimed by the UN.

Force your governments to abide by their treaties and international commitments. Don't be passive, numbed and dehumanized by television and sports.

Take the future in your hands. Get up, talk, walk and act.

My generation has not done so well, but at least we are giving you the global files which we did not have and which will allow you to act.

We have a multitude of dreams, ideas, projects and plans for ourselves, our family, our community, our profession, our corporation, our nation, but we begin only to have major concerns, projects, ideas and plans for our beautiful, perishable Earth —our home — and for the long-term fate of humanity.

Please young people, think, dream and plan far ahead. Your harvest might be incredible.
