When
God measures you
God puts the tape around your heart and after that only around the head. Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living, Volume I The great Scene of Creation Chapter 1 Our Place in the Universe Even if Einstein proved to me a thousand times that time is a function of space, I will have no use for it. For me, indeed, the two greatest realities in which we live are space and time. No mathematical formula or mental reasoning can take this fundamental reality away from me. The real, true, infinite variations in relationships in the vast universe escape all human understanding. They are beyond the grasp of our human words.

Capitalism,
which was a correct
ideology at the end
of the 19th century
has become
dramatically wrong
at the end of the
20th and beginning
of the 21st century.
It is destroying the Earth which has become preoccupation number one of humanity. We might as well use henceforth the German name Kaputalism (destructionism). Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living, Volume I The great Scene of Creation Chapter 1 Our Place in the Universe If the stars and sun would begin to doubt, they would soon extinguish themselves. So it is with humans.

Summary
of a passage of my
Journal of 5
January 1970.
Luncheon offered
by the Secretary
General to Mr.
Aurelio Peccei, a
remarkable man who
merits to be known
world-wide. Having
reached the height
of business
success he now
pursues a dream of
his youth, the
same as mine and
that of Robert
Schuman, namely
the dream of a
world without
borders. He speaks
of futurology, of
macro-problems and
I noted two
remarks which
profoundly
impressed me.
He said, "Once one has placed oneself on a universal point of view there is no return possible. From the time I saw the pictures taken from the moon of our Earth I went across this step and I am no longer able to reason in terms which are not universal and planetary. An unceasing growing number of humans will take that step too and the movement will become irresistible. Number two, it is enough to have understood this and everything becomes clear. When I was a kid I could not understand the notion of eternity. Today I understand it and everything has become simple." My contribution to the conversation was this: 1. The study of the future has been undertaken in many sectors by the United Nations and by its specialized agencies. The time has now come to link all these diverse elements and to create a Committee of the Future in the Economic and Social Council.* 2. In order to know where the world will go at the present writing it is enough to multiply by 7 billion (the projected number of the world population in the year 2000) the figures of consumption which prevail at the present time in the United States. One will be shocked by the figures and one will have to correct the present course of economic development. Here is an example: multiply by 7 billion the average consumption of 600 kilograms of steel per inhabitant of the United States. The result is an impossibility, a crazy concept. And I write later in my Journal that this conversation was at the origin of the famous book by Peccei and the Club of Rome, entitled The Limits of Growth, a book which adopted exactly this hypothesis: Suppose that the world of 7 billion** inhabitants will reach the current levels of consuming of the American people. The result of it pointed to unprecedented disasters and gave a durable shock to the world economy. From that time there is talk of 'sustainable economic development'. Aurelio Peccei says so rightly in The Inner Limits of Mankind "Modern man is 'unfinished,' his transition to a greater maturity retarded. One must recognize this as a cold fact. The current global crisis — in which old and new problems of population, food, education, resources, energy, crowding, inflation, poverty, alienation, militarization, disorder, ecodegradation, injustice, etc., are growing and intertwining beyond recognition — are a consequence of the difficulty people have in achieving the level of understanding and sense of responsibility demanded by their mutated universe. They have — all of them, in all classes and nations throughout the planet — remained confined within obsolete cultural boundaries which in the past could serve them well enough, but which nowadays are dangerously crippling, preventing them from living on par with the reality of their time and from controlling the mechanisms of change." Thirty-one years later, in 2001, it still has not been done despite my urgings. Why not? The fear of nations of the Future? -- * This was never done. In 1998, when writing my 2000 Ideas for the year 2000 I recommended the creation of a main commission of the General Assembly on the future. It was not done. ** Thanks to the work and recommendations of the United Nations that figure of 7 billion was reduced to 6.1 billion, [the actual 2000 population was 6.8 billion]. === World Popuation 1500 585 Million 1800 978 Million 1900 1.6 Billion 1950 2.5 Billion - More than twice 1800 - In 150 Years 2000 6.8 Billion - More than twice 1950 - In 50 Years 2018 7.6 Billion 2023 8 Billion - or by 2026 2055 10 Billion - Estimate made in 2018 See Live - Current world Population http://www.worldometers.info/world-population/ Population & Land Area by World Region 4.545 Billion - 31 million Km2 - Asia 1.287 Billion - 29 million Km2 - Africa 1.015 Billion - 39 million Km2 - Americas including Caribbean .742 Billion - 22 million Km2 - Europe .041 Billion - 8 million Km2 - Oceania Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living, Volume I The great Scene of Creation Chapter 1 Our Place in the Universe We are minuscule entities in the universe and in time. We will never fully understand the infinitely large and infinitely small. We will never grasp the beginningless beginning and endless end. And yet, within these limitations we can live miraculous, joyful, confident, searching, fulfilled, extraordinary lives and acquire an incredible consciousness of the stupendous universe and of our miraculous Earth.

A few
remarks concerning
our current society:
Privatization? Yes,
by whom? By the rich
corporations and by
the wealthy.
Now we have capital colonialism, the latest, vastly, most intelligently, celebrated subtly advertised colonialism. Now in our time the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer and more and more unprotected. Some governments have become the servants of the wealthy and of corporations, not of the increasing number of the poor. The Earth: "Dear Robert, I fully, enthusiastically agree." Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living, Volume I The great Scene of Creation Chapter 1 Our Place in the Universe Not a single encyclopedia on Earth presents our total knowledge within the two most obvious and logical frameworks which impose themselves upon us so glaringly, namely: - the total universe, from the infinitely large to the infinitely small, and - total time, from the infinite past to the infinite future. The editors of the world's great encyclopedias should meet and agree on that new common table of contents of human search and knowledge.
