~ Idea 1597 ~ 24 November 1998
I whole-heartedly support the idea suggested in the European Union that the United Nations General Assembly should establish a new community of the twenty to twenty-five regional communities in formation around the world. It would be a substantial progress toward the creation of a world community or world union. Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living, Volume II Chapter 2 Of Happiness This planet is so beautiful, life is so miraculous that happiness is a sacred duty of the well-to-do.

~ Idea 1596 ~ 23 November 1998
The year 1999 will be the 50th anniversary of the demilitarization of Costa Rica. The President of the country should call for a world conference on demilitarization or at least hold a conference in Costa Rica of all demilitarized countries to show the way to the rest of the world for the 21st century. (see Idea 1390) Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living, Volume II Chapter 2 Of Happiness H.L. Mencken said: "There is no record in history of a happy philosopher. They exist only in romantic legends." Well, if it is true, which I doubt, I want to be the first one, followed by innumerable others.

When we do not do the one thing we ought to do, we have no time for anything else -- we are the busiest people in the world. -- Eric Hoffer "There was a time, not so long ago, when I was busy, busy, busy. At least I thought I was. I told people I worked 60 hours a week. I claimed to sleep six hours a night. As I lamented to anyone stuck next to me at parties, I was basically too busy to breathe. Me time? Ha! Now I work 45 hours a week and sleep close to eight hours a night. But I'm not getting any less done." This Wall Street Journal article shares more. { read more } Be The Change Too busy? Experiment with implementing one or more of the suggestions in the article. "Change your language. Instead of saying "I don't have time" try saying "it's not a priority," and see how that feels. Often, that's a perfectly adequate explanation. I have time to iron my sheets, I just don't want to. But other things are harder. Try it: "I'm not going to edit your résumé, sweetie, because it's not a priority." "I don't go to the doctor because my health is not a priority." If these phrases don't sit well, that's the point. Changing our language reminds us that time is a choice. If we don't like how we're spending an hour, we can choose differently." Books recommended by Robert are here. [GMW #2598] Make Earth A New
Unique Miraculous Paradise

We must make of this Earth a new Athens, a unique, miraculous paradise in the vast, mysterious universe. Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living, Volume II Chapter 2 Of Happiness The big firms sell happiness for their profit. The alcohol and cigarette producers associate their products with happy scenes and joyful events: baptism, marriage, social gatherings, tourism, love, even nature; one sees healthy young men and women smoke and drink in the most beautiful sceneries of Earth. It is essential to develop a literature which will de-hook happiness from drugs, alcohol and smoking and associate it instead with a clean life which alone allows the flowering and fulfillment of the miracle of life.

"I'm a math teacher!" She was sitting on my living room couch surrounded by piles of poetry books. On the coffee table was a stack of cards, each with a different poem on it. Even some of the art on the wall had hand-calligraphed verses among the colors....Jan's glance fell on a stack of Mary Oliver's books, and tears came to her eyes. "A few years ago, when I started teaching at my current job, the first friend I made was Rita, an English teacher and a poet. I confessed to her my inability to understand poetry. With a knowing look in her eye, she said, 'Don't worry, I'll take care of that!'" { read more } Be The Change Take a moment to revisit one of your favorite poems today. We speak of the Earth as our planetary home. We could also speak of it as our planetary garden, the garden of Eden. We could even better speak of it as the miraculous temple of God. Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living, Volume II Chapter 2 Of Happiness It is very easy to recognize happiness: you can see it. It is written all over a face.

[GMW #2596] Transnational To
Global To Cosmic A Glorious New Page Of Human Civilization

~ Idea 1593 ~ 20 November 1998
Transnational is better than international. Global is better than transnational. Cosmic is better than global. Someday soon everything on this planet will be at long last understood in its cosmic, evolutionary nature. Then an entirely new page of human civilization, a non-destructive, exalted, fulfilled and glorious one will arise. Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living, Volume II Chapter 2 Of Happiness Once during the war, a very intelligent man, a hat manufacturer from Belgium, visited our family. When he heard my father complain about the hardness of the times, he went to the bathroom and brought back a fragrant loaf of prewar toilet soap which my mother had extracted from her treasure-chest in his honor. He passed it around and asked everyone to take a deep breath of its delightful fragrance. Then he said: "Once this war is over never will anyone of us feel again the happiness we enjoy at this moment in touching and smelling this soft, heavenly, rare loaf of soap. At every time of one's life, in every circumstance there is an opportunity for happiness. The art of living consists in seeking out these special moments." I have never forgotten his words. Each time I unwrap a fresh loaf of toilet soap, his words come back to me, and I hold it respectfully to my nostrils to enjoy a special moment of happiness. O youth of today, you do not know how lucky you are. You will never know how badly a piece of wartime soap looked like and smelled. I can still feel its sandy texture hurt my skin.

There are optical fibers, there are mental fibers, there a sentimental fibers, moral fibers and spiritual fibers in the whole human being. Use them all to the fullest and you will feel aggrandized to an incredible degree. People around you will consider you a genius or a saint. Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living, Volume II Chapter 2 Of Happiness Happiness is a mysterious fluid, a positive current released by the individual. It pervades the entire being and allows its optimum functioning. This is true also for the human society whose continued journey in fathomless space and time requires joy, happiness and hope as its luminous guideposts. Hence the need for world leaders who radiate happiness and dispense optimism and hope. At this stage of evolution, there is no longer much merit and recognition in power, wealth and vainglory.

Your efforts are well rewarded and make us happy. Perhaps you could obtain that the Hospital For Sick Children be renamed the Healthpital for Sick Children. The children could thus be strengthened to believe that this is a place where health will be given to them. With all our love, Robert and Barbara" What a JOY is to re read Robert's words. :) It reminded me of another Bench of Dream that I hosted and helped create at a CCRC; Continuing Care Retirement Community, for elders, on November of 2004. I remember, after the cutting ribbon ceremony of the wonder-full Bench of Dreams, that one of our elders, Elsie, said something like; I love the idea of having a place where we can go to dream our dreams. Personally, no one ever told me that I could have a dream. Especially for elders like us, most of everyone seems to talk about the end of our lives instead of the possibility of having dreams and continue living. Then she said "I will live until the day I die, that day I will retire." I then moved a motion to rename the community; from Retirement Community to Community Of Life. The motion was accepted by the majority and there we had our first dream that came to come true. Love and light! Katherine @BePeaceINLove Books recommended by Robert are here. We must never cease to see possibilities in all impossibilities, probabilities in all improbabilities, the visible in all the invisible, the openings in all that seems closed. As we try we will be astonished by the result. Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living, Volume II Chapter 2 Of Happiness Happiness is a science and an art which must be studied, taught and practiced widely. I dream of Universities of Happiness, of a vast literature of "Exercises in Happiness", "Recipes for Happiness", "The Science of Happiness", "The Art of Happiness", "How to Live Happily", "Teachers' Guide to Happiness", "Courses in Happiness." Every profession should have good writers and books on: "How to live happily as a lawyer", "How to be a happy teacher", "How to be a Happy Doctor", etc. I pray that some day happiness will be taught in all schools and universities of the world. It is amazing, unexplainable that it is not.
