Idea Dream - Robert Muller's Ideas 1001 to 1500
~ Idea 1278 ~
9 January 1998
I hope that a World Association of Long-term Scientists and Thinkers will soon be created. The preparatory work has been done by Erika Erdmann and Professor Jean-Claude Leonide in their world survey of possible interested scientists (see idea 526). The world needs urgently such an association.

Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living,
Volume II Chapter 11 - Of Gratitude
I often think of Sir John Templeton and Peter Stewart, the founders of World Thanksgiving Square in Dallas. How right they are: there should be a World Thanksgiving Day. Perhaps the International Day of the Family, proclaimed by the United Nations and celebrated on the 15th of May could become that day. I obtained to have the year 2000 declared World Thanksgiving Year by the UN General Assembly.

Daily Good

Imagination is more important than knowledge.
-- Albert Einstein

Good News of the Day:
When Arunachalam Muruganantham hit a wall in his research on creating a sanitary napkin for poor women, he decided to do what most men typically wouldn't dream of. He wore one himself -- for a whole week. Fashioning his own menstruating uterus by filling a bladder with goat's blood, Muruganantham went about his life while wearing women's underwear, occasionally squeezing the contraption to test out his latest iteration. It resulted in endless derision and almost destroyed his family. But no one is laughing at him anymore, as the sanitary napkin-making machine he went on to create is transforming the lives of rural women across India. Right now, 88% of women in India resort to using dirty rags, newspapers, dried leaves, and even ashes during their period. Perhaps most amazing of all? Muruganantham is a high school dropout. [More]

Idea Dream - Robert Muller's Ideas 1001 to 1500
~ Idea 1277 ~
8 January 1998
As a preparation of our entry into the 21st century and third millennium I recommend the creation of three World Commissions of Eminent Personalities:

- a World Commission on Philanthropy (love for humanity)

- a World Commission on Gaiaphily (love for the Earth)

- a World Commission on World Prizes

Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living,
Volume II Chapter 11 - Of Gratitude
Each person and nation should count its blessings and not mostly complain, be dissatisfied and always want more. No wonder that God punishes us for our lack of gratitude. Perhaps nuclear arms are the effects of our insatiability.

WORD FOR THE DAY

Love is...like a spring coming up
out of the ground
of our own depths.

"I am gift."
All that I am is something that's given, and
given freely.

Being doesn't cost anything.
There's no price tag,
no strings attached.

~ Idea 1276 ~
7 January 1998
The United Religions Organization, once established, should proclaim its own saints and holy persons, namely global saints who worked for the peace and cooperation of all humanity, of all religions, for the birth of a global spirituality, for the promotion of the high spiritual values shared by all religions, and for the advent of a spiritual third Millennium.

Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living,
Volume II Chapter 11 - Of Gratitude
If I were the President of a prosperous country, I would issue a yearly report of gratitude to God and celebrate a thanksgiving day. A few countries do it already. The United Nations should proclaim a world-wide one.

In the reform plans of the UN, attention should be given to the proposals of Russia to create an Environmental Security Council or to replace the UN Trusteeship Council which has completed its work by a UN Environmental Council as a main UN organ.

Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living,
Volume II Chapter 11 - Of Gratitude
What an immense need there is in the rich countries for deep gratitude to God! But it is mostly the poor who adore, pray and thank God. It is mostly in Latin America and in India that one hears the people thank God many times a day.

Idea Dream - Robert Muller's Ideas 1001 to 1500
~ Idea 1273 ~
4 January 1998
At the beginning of my first 500 ideas, in idea number 5, I recommended the early holding of a world conference on non-violence. I believe that it would be worthwhile to hold also soonest a world conference on education of peace and non-violence.

Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living,
Volume II Chapter 11 - Of Gratitude
Our heart can be as big as the world. I can embrace all humanity, the heavens and the Earth, even God. That is the miraculous capacity of human nature. We are a very lucky, most advanced species among all the living ones on this planet and perhaps in the universe. We must be worthy of it, endlessly grateful, peaceful and make the Earth a true Paradise.

The Power and Potential of Nonviolent Struggle by Gene Sharp

This film opens with a two minute trailer of an award winning film
about the application of the ideas that that Gene Sharp talks about.
Well worth watching.

The Power and Potential of Nonviolent Struggle by Gene Sharp
http://youtu.be/QQV_4-rXXrE

Gene Sharp, Senior Scholar of the Albert Einstein Institution, shares insights from his life study of how nonviolent struggle can work. For many years Gene and the Albert Einstein Institution have been mentors and catalysts for nonviolent struggle throughout the world.

In this film Gene shows with example after compelling example what it takes to nurture successful nonviolent struggle. Military people trained in violence as the only way and people fighting against military violence can change their minds, hearts and ways as they learn how nonviolent struggle can work. Thoughtful strategy, discipline to carry it out, a willingness to learn and understand what people of a place want and will support are essential aspects of nonviolent struggle.

Political power is not intrinsic to rulers nor is it monolithic. Political power is derived from the people of a place and will disintegrate when people withdraw their obedience and support.

The film opens with a trailer of the award winning film - How To Start A Revolution.

Gene gave this talk, in 1990 at the National Conference on Nonviolent Sanctions and Defense in Boston. Since then he continues his work, ever more research, and writing that is translated into numerous languages where ever nonviolent struggle challenges non democratic ways.

Gene Sharp's books are available for order or free download from The Albert Einstein Institution, www.AEinstein.org
Including: From Dictatorship to Democracy, Self-Liberation, There Are Realistic Alternatives

This film is also available for broadcast on public access TV to download from PEGMedia.org. Phone your local public access TV station and ask them to broadcast this film so your local community can meet Gene Sharp and understand nonviolent struggle is a better alternative than war and other forms of violence.

Sent anonymously to Robert Muller:

"In the central valley of Costa Rica not far from San Jose, there are three volcanoes: two are on the North-eastern range of hills, the Poas and the Irazu volcanoes. On the other side, on Mount Rasur above the University for Peace, there is a third volcano of ideas: Robert Muller. The first two are inactive, the third one, Robert Muller is in full eruption."

Charlie Chaplin: Let Us Free the World

Some call it the greatest speech ever made. This remix puts Charlie Chaplin's climactic address from "The Great Dictator" (1940) into present-day context, showing how the spirit of liberty, brotherhood, and equality that defeated fascism seven decades ago must be urgently reclaimed.

Idea Dream - Robert Muller's Ideas 1001 to 1500
~ Idea 1263 ~
25 December 1997
On this day of celebration of the birth of Jesus, I wonder what the Christ is thinking in the heavens looking down upon the Earth. He cannot fail to bemourn the millions of his beloved human brothers and sisters who were killed over the last 1997 years in his name and in the name of other prophets and emissaries like him. May I place in His mouth this prayer to His representative on Earth, Pope John Paul II:

"I pray you to rescind on Christmas 1999 the Papal Bull Inter Cetera of your predecessor in the 15th century requesting the colonialists of the Americas to subjugate and kill the indigenous people for the propagation of the Christian Empire and faith.

No papal bull was ever so contrary to my teachings and message to the world. Please do not invoke papal infallibility.

No human being on Earth, not even I in heaven am infallible, given all the killings and sufferings which were committed in my name.

Please do it out of love.

Please read the Declaration of Vision of the United Indigenous People at the World Parliament of Religions in 1993 in Chicago, which my son Robert Muller reproduces at the end of these 1300 ideas for a better world on my bimillennial birthday in 2000."

Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living,
Volume II Chapter 11 - Of Gratitude
Life is a great miracle, a most beautiful gift, an incredible mystery.
Our planet is an even more magnificent wonder.

We must therefore be thankful and
be in love with
our Earth,
with humanity,
with all living beings,
with the universe and
with God and God's angels.
