Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living,   Volume II Chapter 4 - Of Positive Living Don't be only consumers.  Don't read newspapers, magazines and books or watch television most of the time.  Produce something.  Write your journal, thoughts, feelings and memories.  Tell your stories.  It will validate your life and make you feel great.  Keep close to your life.  Cherish it.  Do not sell it out as a consuming unit programmed by others.  Take yourself as the first priority. [GMW #2179] St. Francis And St. Claire Patron Saints Of the United Nations Friday 25 March 2011, Editor: Easy | RobertMuller.org | Contact | Subscribe | Unsubscribe | Biography | World Core Curriculum | Store | Facebook | Twitter | GMW Blogs: English | Portuguese | Spanish | Tagalog | Dutch | Idea Dream - Robert Muller's Ideas 1001 to 1500     ~ Idea 1438 ~    19 June 1998 I received from an admiring author a great book One Hundred Saints  with a beautiful inscription of his wish that I should be declared a saint too.  I perused the illustrated book and noted that only seven of the 100 were saints of the military (four of soldiers, the others of hunters, armorers and paratroopers).  I suggest that these qualifications be suppressed.  Christ would not give saintly support to the militaries who are trained to kill other humans.  I also do not understand why the Pope has never accepted my request that St. Francis and St. Claire be made the patron saints of the United Nations.  Almost everyone of the 100 saints is the patron saint of a nation.  Some European nations have several national saints! One good news: Robert Schuman, my compatriot from Alsace-Lorraine who fathered the borderless European Union will be declared saint in the year 2000.  I am a member of his canonization committee.  The Pope asks us to hurry up, because he feels rightly "that the world needs political saints." I have also recommend that the United Religions Organization should grant global sainthood to humans who have devoted their lives to peace and to a better world, irrespective of their religion.  I would love to receive it after my death.  It would help me up there with my connections to all religions, Gods and prophets. When national leaders and chief executive officers of businesses will appear before God's tribunal, they will be condemned not for classical sins but for new global sins against nature and God's Creation. The UN should create an office of collecting and proposing many common world projects. You will never imagine how many people will keep away from you because you are negative.  You will never imagine how people will be friends with you and will help you if you are positive. Chowdhury, Under-Secretary-General and High Representative of the United Nations (2002-2007) and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN (1996-2001) ***** The international community is deeply indebted to Robert Muller for his life-long contribution to humankind's quest for peace and happiness. A man of peace, a true global citizen and a real believer in harmony and understanding among all peoples, he lived an extraordinary, exemplary life that motivates all of us to carry forward his mission for world peace and global cooperation. I am one of them being charmed by this renaissance man of ideas from our first meeting at the UN when I reached there in 1972 with the application for the membership of my new-born country Bangladesh. Our interactions since then - in particular for the University of Peace and for the World Center of Thanksgiving - had always been spirit-uplifting. His words, writings and books have been a constant source of inspiration for me. Robert has been one of our greatest and most committed voices for peace. He dedicated his life to global unity and the spiritual well-being of humanity. It fills us with energy when he and his life-partner Barbara wrote in 2001, "Let us make this third millennium a Jubillennium filled with overflowing peace, tremendous love, happiness and thanksgiving." Rising, within a span of 40 years, from a UN Intern to Assistant Secretary General's position, Robert's courageous story is an inspiration to all of us to continue working relentlessly for the mission of the United Nations. Introducing an excellent hands-on approach to learning in a global perspective, Robert created a "World Core Curriculum" that earned him the UNESCO Peace Education Prize in 1989. He has been popularly known throughout the world as the "father of global education." In his acceptance speech for the UNESCO prize, he said, "I hope [there will be] a global peace strategy which would reach from outer-space to the atom, encompassing all aspects of our planetary home." I believe with its Programme of Action on Culture of Peace, the United Nations has given the world such a strategy and today, in honor of Robert's memory, we need to re-dedicate ourselves to the Programme's realization into a meaningful reality. In his poem Decide to be Peaceful, Robert exhorted us so eloquently:  "Render others peaceful; Be a model of peace; Irradiate your peace; Love passionately the peace."
