DATE: Friday, March 11, 2011 TIME: 12:30 pm in the Church Center for the United Nations, located across from the UN 1:30 pm Ted Turner sponsored reception on the second floor of the Church Center, 777 First Avenue at 44th Street, New York, New York 10017 RSVP:  Barbara@rain.org In 1947, Dr. Muller began his career with the United Nations as an intern and 40 years later retired as Assistant Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affaires. Dr. Muller helped shape many of the the United Nations Programs and Institutions, and spent his entire life working for Peace. Dr. Muller continued to speak and write after his retirement and co-founded the UN University for Peace in Costa Rica. On September 20 on the eve of the International Peace Day, Dr. Muller died at the age of 87. We will truly miss his harmonica and his famous rendition of Ode to Joy. I fully support that proposal. Robert's The Miracle, Joy and Art of Living,   Volume II Chapter 4 - Of Positive Living One day in Geneva, Switzerland, as we went to the theater in the evening, we left the car parked on the side of a street.  Minutes later a taxi skidded into the vehicle, destroying a whole side of it.  My wife was very upset.  I told her:  "Don't be upset.  Be happy that we were not in the car.  Be happy because we did not have an accident in ten years, and according to the law of great numbers we will sooner or later have one.  Well, we just had one and will in all likelihood be protected for a good while." And so it was for more than thirty years. Ecologists should therefore not only study how other species can be saved in natural parks.  They should also study the effects on humanity of a diminishing nature. We should draw up a genial agenda of ideals in the new century.  How exciting this would be!  If I were the Secretary General, I would draw up such an agenda with the input of all UN agencies and offer it to the community of nations as an ideal agenda to be adopted by the UN General Assembly 2000.
