There exists only one ministerial Council in the United Nations system: the World Food Council of the UN Food and Agricultural Organization. There should be ministerial councils for every global subject dealt with in the United Nations.

The Ministers of all nations should know each other and work closely together in their respective fields.

A first, most important one would be a World Council of Ministers of Defense.

The role of grandparents in the development of children and transmission of the wisdom of life, especially through story-telling, is of paramount importance.

Some of the greatest lessons in my life I received from my only grandparent alive, my grandfather the hatmaker.

Today, many more children have the benefit of their grandparents, due to increased longevity. They should be happy and grateful and take full advantage of it.

A grandparent is alive and a blessing.
Television is not.

Preferential world aid, bilateral and philanthropic aid should be given to countries which have no nuclear arms and no nuclear energy plants.

They should be thanked for not contributing to the atomic radiation of the Earth and of the human species.

Humanity had an International Year of the Child, an International Year of Youth, a World Assembly on Aging and an International Year of Older Persons, four World Conferences on Women, an International Year of the Handicapped, and an International Year of the Family.

Humanity still needs international years and/or conferences on marriage, motherhood, grandparents, retirement, death and the beyond.

Only gratefulness, in the form of limitless openness for surprise, lays hold of the fullness of life in hope.

Retirement is the beautiful age of service to others. A wilting flower or plant is no longer useful. Humanity has managed to give usefulness to its elderly members: the sharing of experience, progress and service to others.

An idea which I like very much is the proposal by a Costa Rican citizen, Jesus Maria Salas Araya, that the whole country of Costa Rica be declared by the United Nations an Ecological Heritage or Patrimony of Humanity.

He points out that thirty percent of the country's area are protected under the categories National Parks, Biological Reserves, National Monuments, Forest Reserves, Protected Zones, Refuges for Forest Life and National Forests, all these areas being administered, controlled or inspected by the State. In addition there are thousands of hectares protected and reforested by private persons.
