RE Idea 6759 Ministries of Foreign Affairs

Naming conventions are important. They are instrumental in forming our preconceptions, correctly or incorrectly.

Perhaps you have addressed this in an idea already, but for this same reason i advocate changing the name of the UN Secretary General. This was one of my strong suggestions at the UN Reform Conference we attended a few years ago in San Francisco. Why do i advocate this? Ask your average person on the street what images come to mind when you say 'General'? You will get numerous militaristic responses. Not exactly what today's UN stands for...or needs to stand for.

I am glad to have received from Dr. John Hagelin, president of the third United States party, the Natural Law Party, a manual he has just written entitled Manual for a Perfect Government, with the subtitle How to Harness the Laws of Nature to Bring Maximum Success to Governmental Administration. I had sent him my first five hundred Ideas and Dreams for a Better World, but he does not have as yet Idea 690 which says the following:

I recommend the holding of a UN World Conference or the creation of a World Commission on the Ideal Earth and Humanity in the 21st Century. The idea looks utopian, but even if we do not get a clear answer, we will learn a lot and move closer to it.

I have often pleaded that Ministries of Foreign Affairs should all be renamed because there exist much higher interlinked world affairs which are no longer 'foreign' It will be interesting to see what effects the new borderless European Union of twenty-five countries will have on Ministries of Foreign Affairs!
